Soup And A Story Goes On Tour Across Dumfries & Galloway
Company News
Soup And A Story, Braw Clan’s popular community programme, went on tour in March with the support of Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival. Visiting lunch clubs and community spaces in Annan, Moffat, Sanquhar, Johnstonebridge and Eskdalemuir, actor Fletcher Mathers performed for nearly 200 people.
She read “The Pownie” by Robert McLellan, a short story set on the Linmill fruit farm in Kirkfieldbank nearly 100 years ago.
Audience members enjoyed the story and remarked on the pleasure of hearing Scots words, some forgotten since childhood.
Their feedback includes:
“I thought it was VERY fabulous – it is so important to keep Scots language going as it is scary how fast it has gone. We really love that you brought it to the country – very lucky!”
“Excellent presentation. Lovely idea to listen to a story. Most excellent actor who voiced the story and really brought it to life for me.”
“What a brilliant time with Braw Clan. I hope they can come back some other time. It was good to hear the “old” language.”
“Interesting and challenging. I was totally in a different world. Marvellous how it keeps history going.”
“I think it was amazing and would love to see a play using Scots”
“It was wonderful. Very evocative. I’m not Scottish but I understood 90% of it. Please, please come back soon!”
