Soup And A Story is Braw Clan's unique community programme, offering a free hot meal in a warm hall, good company and a live performance of a Scots story by a professional actor, once a month through the winter.
Our fifth season, supported by SSE Renewables, National Lottery Awards For All Scotland and the WM Mann Foundation, runs in Symington and Roberton village halls from October 2026 to May 2027.
In October our actor will be Michael Mackenzie. He'll be reading Forever In His Debt by Martin Travers, in which theatrical impresario Jock McFadyen is very late for his friend Wally's funeral.
Booking opens at the beginning of October - tickets are free but must be reserved in advance. You can also reserve your seat by ringing 01899 220600.

About your afternoon out
Soup And A Story in Symington and Roberton starts at 12pm. From 12pm-1pm we enjoy a bowl of soup and a roll, cake and tea and coffee. (Our soup is always vegetarian and gluten free. If you have dietary requirements or need allergen information, please get in touch.) At 1pm it's time for the story, which will last about 20 minutes, followed by a brief chat with the actor.
Both village halls are accessible, including toilets. Free on-street parking is available nearby.

Want us to come to your club?
Soup And A Story is a simple, flexible format that works for all kinds of lunch clubs. We start with soup, cakes and conversation. Then it's time for the story, which is around 15 - 20 minutes long, followed by a short chat with the actor and a group discussion.
If it's not possible to serve hot food at your venue, we offer Tea And A Tale. That's the same format but with just tea and coffee.
Upcoming sessions
Tea And A Tale is coming to the Wee Crook cafe in Tweedsmuir, and five more village halls in Clydesdale and the Borders from January 2027.
