Soup And A Story
Soup And A Story is Braw Clan's flagship community project. Working in partnership with lunch clubs for older people, we provide a warm welcome, a free lunch and a live performance of a Scots story by a professional actor.
Packed village halls in Roberton and Biggar recently heard stories read by Robin Laing, James Mackenzie, Michael Mackenzie and Joyce Falconer. Soup And A Story comes to Braehead and Carnwath lunch clubs from August 2023.

The ongoing effects of the pandemic, lack of public transport and the current cost of living crisis put many rural older people at risk of poor emotional and physical health.
Running once a month, Soup And A Story offers a homemade meal, entertainment and social connection.
Our first season, funded by Clyde Wind Farm and SSE Renewables, ran in Biggar and Roberton and featured the work of Robert McLellan. Based on his memories of growing up on his grandparents’ fruit farm near Lanark, the Linmill Stories are a glimpse into a vanished world.
Writer Donald Campbell said "Robert McLellan wasn’t just a playwright, he was something else – something different, something special." We think the same applies to older people in Clydesdale, and Soup And A Story is designed to delight them.

Want us to come to your club?
Soup And A Story is a simple, flexible format that works for all kinds of lunch clubs. We start with soup, cakes and conversation. Then it's time for the story, which is around 15 - 20 minutes long, followed by a short chat with the actor and a group discussion.
Our next sessions run monthly in Braehead and Carnwath from August 2023 to March 2024, funded by Awards For All Scotland.
If you think Soup And A Story could be a good fit for your lunch club, we'd love to hear from you. The first step is to get in touch here.
