Great theatre is based on something real and true.

That's when it makes an impact and enriches our lives. There are fascinating truths locked up in the Scots canon, and in our history, poetry and traditional songs, but we don't benefit from them because few actors have the skills to confidently perform in Scots, and almost no new Scots language theatre is being written or produced.

That's a tragedy. Scots is a vibrant living language: tender, savage, hilarious and theatrical. It can so much add to life in Scotland.

Our Unlocking Scots programme has two strands.

Creativity, in which we collectively make something new, and culture in which we offer people an encounter with that creativity. We want to explore what Scots langugage theatre can do for people, not just what it is.

Funded by the National Lottery's Extended Programme Fund, we'll train 28 theatre-makers to perform in Scots and develop 5 new pieces of theatre across a range of formats. We'll share our progress with people in Clydesdale and Dumfries.

Gripping stories, in Scots.

Braw Clan's actors work far and wide, performing for companies like Shakespeare's Globe, the BBC, ITV and Netflix. But Clydesdale is our home. When we turn up to do a play in your village hall, you better believe we're going to make it a night to remember.
