Tea And A Tale Attracts Big Crowds In Lanark
Company News
Braw Clan’s first season of Tea And A Tale in Lanark draws to a close this August, having attracted nearly 200 more audience members than expected. Tea And A Tale is the afternoon version of the company’s popular community programme, Soup And A Story.
Creative Director Clare Yuille says:
“We’ve wanted to work in Lanark for a long time, and these five sessions at Greyfriars Kirk have been a delight. We expected around 30 people to come each time, so we booked the wee hall. By the second month, however, it became clear that we didn’t have enough space for everyone who wanted to come along. By June, Tea And A Tale was attracting over 90 people each time. People going past on the street asked me who was getting married, because there was such a big crowd.”
“We’re over the moon that Tea And A Tale has gone so well.”
“We have to thank our funders, the Souter Charitable Trust, and our friends at Lanark’s University of the Third Age for supporting this project. All of our stories were taken from Linmill Stories by Robert McLellan, which are set just down the road in Kirkfieldbank. I’m sure that’s helped to bring people in. They give us a glimpse into what Lanarkshire was like 100 years ago, but some of the places he mentions are recognisable today. From the feedback, we can tell that lots of people are enjoying that connection. We also have to thank our actors, Fletcher Mathers, Marty Docherty, Morven Blackadder, Joyce Falconer and James Mackenzie, for bringing them to life.”
“New sessions are planned for Lanark. We hope to be back in summer 2026.”
