Exhausted And Jubilant
Production Diary

Wednesday 7th June
It’s the day after shooting the trailer and I feel both exhausted and jubilant.
We completed the day with a team of four women: myself, Clare, Cristina, and Morven, our actor. Cristina and I are similar in that we are both possibly a tad more gung-ho than we need to be with artistic endeavours but I won’t apologise for that – in fact, I’d say going that extra mile is necessary and that’s definitely what we did yesterday.
But I shall say no more for fear of spoilers.
Keen to support small local businesses, New Lanark, the World Heritage Site, most generously allowed us to film in one of their beautiful rooms.
This was our last-minute find.
Cristina felt it was large enough for us to frame the room out and allow us to create a new space within that would work for the shots we were after.
It was a challenge and I could see her frustration at various points in the day but I knew she would make it work – and she did. Another benefit of the space was the sublime lighting which shone through the long sash windows and cast wonderful shadows that Cristina took great delight in playing with.
It was a big day for our young actor, Morven.
She was the focus of every shot but she performed so naturally, responded well to direction, and had a great attitude throughout. I’m sure she’s going to go on to play some lovely roles after this one.
Having such a young actor in the cast is a responsibility indeed. I hope my own experiences as an actor will help me guide her through the process in a positive way. Every actor should have happy, life-long memories of their first professional stage play.
