Follow Pauline Lynch, director of Secret Wrapped In Lead, as she reflects on what she’s learned.

Thursday 18th May

Our Marketing Director, Clare, was keen to get a good start on marketing as we really don’t have the luxury of time on this show. We gathered the team on zoom tonight with the exception of Jack, our Sound Designer, who’s down with flu.

A bit of a landmark occasion nevertheless to gather everyone for the first time and nail down some dates for delivery, along with the first airing of creative ideas.

Until Paul and I have scoped out all of our venues, I can postpone certain decisions — mainly due to our lack of set.

I’m enjoying this temporary freedom.

I plan on making the most of it.

I’m rethinking earlier thoughts to have a thrust stage as I now feel drawn towards the round. If we have no set, let’s make a feature of it. There’s something nakedly unapologetic about a playing area set boldly in the middle of a village hall. Just black aluminium deck. The whole evening hingeing on the performers and the script.

And I have such confidence in our performers and the script, and I love the collegiate atmosphere of an in-the-round audience.

It feels very Braw Clan to me.

Everyone contributes to the evening. No passive observers because everyone is being watched.

My reservation is we would have to go down to 4 aluminium decks which isn’t a big playing area, and we need space between the actors. Looking forward to discussing the practicalities with Paul when I see him. Ha! And he thought we’d made that decision.

Gripping stories, in Scots.

Braw Clan's actors work far and wide, performing for companies like Shakespeare's Globe, the BBC, ITV and Netflix. But Clydesdale is our home. When we turn up to do a play in your village hall, you better believe we're going to make it a night to remember.
