Braw Clan Wins Scots Language Award
Company News
The Scots Language Awards were held at Cumnock Town Hall on Saturday 14th September, and Braw Clan won Community Project O The Year.
This prestigious event celebrates Scotland’s rich linguistic heritage, honouring those who champion the Scots language across various fields. For the first time, the ceremony took place in East Ayrshire, a region steeped in Scots tradition and home to Robert Burns.
Hosted by Taylor Dyson and Shane Strachan, the evening featured performances by Seán Gray, Susi Briggs, Rose Byers, Claire Hastings and Billy Kay.
This sixth annual celebration comes at a time when Scots is experiencing a renaissance, with over 46% of Scotland’s population now claiming some proficiency in the language.
Creative producer and playwright Martin Travers said:
“We’re excited to be part of an event that showcases the vibrancy and importance of Scots in contemporary Scottish culture. Winning was a wonderful surprise. The award honours all the people we’ve met over the last year – our Soup And A Story audiences in Carnwath, Biggar, Roberton and Braehead, everyone who came to see Secret Wrapped In Lead, and all the actors and theatremakers who work with Braw Clan. We’re looking forward to sharing this brilliant news at So Long, Wee Moon which opens this week.”
Gripping stories, in Scots.
Braw Clan's actors work far and wide, performing for companies like Shakespeare's Globe, the BBC, ITV and Netflix. But Clydesdale is our home. When we turn up to do a play in your village hall, you better believe we're going to make it a night to remember.
