Tuesday 27th June
The cast, Martin, and I all piled into my car and headed to Leadhills for a bit of team bonding and local research.
It’s an easy slide into rehearsals this week as I believe it’s important for all of us to become comfortable with each other before we start any proper digging into the work.
We visited the Museum Of Lead Mining in Wanlockhead. One particularly disturbing aspect was the recording of a clearly diseased man’s breathing as he worked in the smelters where the lead was extracted.
The irony of the town thriving on mining while the workers suffered is mirrored within the themes of the play in a very dark way. I love it. What that says about me as an individual, I’m not sure.
